Center Dardedze is an organization founded by two nongovernmental organizations – “Latvian Children’s Fund” and “Center against abuse for children and families support” on April 4, 2001 and it was officially opened by ex - president of Latvia, Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga.
The idea to establish a support center emerged already in 1996 when experts, who had to deal with the abuse against children on a daily basis and who could not be indifferent toward this problem, came together. With the help of Open Society Institute (NY) the project “Establishment and implementation of the program: abuse against children prevention in Latvia” became one of the important components in the establishment of Dardedze.
The cooperation between Latvian Children’s Fund and “Center against abuse for children and families support” was formed in 1999 in order to open the support center for children, who had suffered from all form of abuse. Agnese Megne was elected and approved as the chair of Dardedze in the very same year. The president of Latvian Children’s Fund, Andris Bērziņš, and the chair of board of “Center against abuse for children and families support”, Agnese Megne, consistently worked for one and half years in order to attract financing and deal with the endless formalities so that the center would be established. Latvian Children’s Fund mainly undertook the responsibility for attracting finances and qualitative performance of the repair works. Meanwhile “Center against abuse for children and families support” worked on the content of the center and team training.
Logo of Dardedze was created by merging the logos of both establishing organizations.
Initially we worked only with victims of violence, but then gradually started to develop preventive and prophylaxis direction thus creating and offering various services for abuse prevention to our clients.
