Overview of Project’s First Six Months

The first 6 months of the project have been interesting and dynamic, the project team has organized meetings in the regions and county representatives visited Centre Dardedze.

County representatives involved in the Project met for the first time at the Project opening event in November 2013 to get to know each other and review the schedule of the Project.

During the period from November 2013 till March 2014 Dardedze performed assessment of the situation in Salacgrīva, Roja and Dobele. A number of meetings with local experts and parents have been organized. A questionnaire and talks with local pupils were organized to understand children’s opinion about safe and friendly environment in their neighbourhood. As a result of the broad analysis a methodical material is prepared which will be used to do the assessment in other regions of Latvia. Current experience is successfully used to further develop strategies for pilot projects in Salacgrīva, Roja and Dobele to create safe and stable family environment for a child.

In early April, Dardedze Center organized a seminar for Salacgrīva’s, Roja’s and Dobeles NGO members to share the experience and to learn region news. Discussions were held on topics like NGO role in the society and opportunities to help local authorities to solve social problems, local NGO members were encouraged to participate in Dardedze’s project.

In May, the project team will repeat visits to Salacgrīva, Roja and Dobele to held a seminar and inform county residents, politicians, NGOs and social workers about the results of the situation analysis and to collect ideas and proposals from local societies.
