Never Violence and Centre Dardedze Annual Conference

Raising children without violence is possible. Learn how positive discipline leads to change and benefits society.

The Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children was launched in July 2016 and is a joint initiative of UNICEF, other UN Agencies, governments, civil society and public sectors. All the actors came together after the adoption of Agenda 2030 and its new set of sustainability goals, to seize the momentum to end violence against children.

Sweden was the first country in the world to join the Global Partnership as a pathfinding country. Others have followed suit and in 2018 the Partnership includes 20 countries. For the latest number and a list of countries, please visit www.end-violence.org .

What can be done by the state, what can companies do and what is the role for NGOs? How can all parties cooperate in the best way, and what good examples are there to follow in order to prevent violence against children?

These questions were discussed during the conference "Go there - don't know where?: Finding a way to prevent child abuse", organised by Centre Dardedze in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden and the Swedish Institute on September 10. Together, we can find a way to prevent children abuse and achieve a secure childhood for all children.

We are very pleased that we have been able to bring together the country's top officials and decision-makers to put together the "big picture" - what is the current situation in the field of child protection and what is our common direction.

It was a great honor to receive President Egils Levits, Minister of Justice Jānis Bordāns, Minister of Welfare Ramona Petraviča, Parliamentary Secretary of the Prime Minister Evika Siliņa and a representative of the Swedish Embassy Hannes Tordengren at the opening of the conference.

Violence against children can only be prevented if all the sectors involved - leading figures in the fields of welfare, health, education, justice and home affairs - come together and coordinate their goals and plans.

The exhibition Never Violence offers illustrations by Stina Wirsén, with texts from Astrid Lindgren’s speech ‘Never violence!’ and will be presented at the National Library of Latvia until October 10.

Give the children love, more love and still more love – and the common sense will come by itself.’ – says Astrid Lindgren.
