Public Education and a Systematic Approach to the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse

The Society Integration Foundation has granted funding to “Centrs Dardedze” for the project “Public Education and a Systematic Approach to the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse” (2025.LV/NVOF/MAC/036), within which we plan to carry out extensive activities in child advocacy as well as public education.

The aim of the project is to promote the development of an effective child protection system that enables every child to experience safe and respectful relationships, thereby reducing the risk of child sexual abuse. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to work with various target audiences – from decision-makers to society as a whole. Therefore, the project activities and the strategic work of Centrs Dardedze during the 2022–2027 period are focused on creating systematic, data-driven, and child-centred policies, fostering proactive interinstitutional cooperation, and raising public awareness.

Planned project activities:

  • Child advocacy at national and municipal levels.

  • Support group “Safe Space” for adults who experienced sexual abuse in childhood, fostering the development of a support movement.

  • Educational campaigns to raise public awareness on the prevention of child sexual abuse.

  • Conferences to deepen professionals’ knowledge.

  • Surveys to highlight the issue based on data.

  • Support for five municipalities in Latvia in developing and implementing Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Plans.

Through these activities, we aim to ensure that:

  • Policymakers and other stakeholders develop legislation and regulations based on the best interests of the child, promoting both the reduction of child sexual abuse risks and the provision of effective support.

  • Professionals actively cooperate across institutions and are knowledgeable about preventive measures as well as appropriate actions in cases of child sexual abuse.

  • The wider public (especially parents) recognises the risks of child sexual abuse and takes preventive action to avoid them.

Implementation period: 01.01.2025 – 31.10.2026

Funding: EUR 80,000
