Launch of the EC Network for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse

The European Commission is currently creating a new network for the prevention of child sexual abuse, and we are also among the wide circle of experts – Latvia is represented by Anda Avena, a member of the board of the Dardedze Centre in the field of advocacy, and Līga Trukšāne from the State Police.

The first meeting of the network took place on 12 and 13 January in Brussels. On the first day of the meeting, we listened to the current initiatives of the European Commission and actively started looking for the biggest challenges and possible solutions in the field of child protection, while on the second day participants shared their experience on various crime reduction programs, the involvement of victims, children and youth.

The network consists of 50 experts — representatives of organizations nominated by EU member states and specially selected, combining knowledge, experience and a common goal: to strengthen child safety across Europe.
